Introducing . . .

the Magic Microphone!

In this Relax Kids' relaxation exercise, kiddos think of positive words to say into the microphone.  It was a great way to wrap today's yoga practice:
"It's Back to School Time--Pack Your Backpack!"

We practiced "mirror hands" to remember our gluesticks.  We pretended to be crayons in a box as we log rolled over some friends.  We strengthened our tummy muscles when we rocked and rolled to standing:

During our warm up, we moved like mice, cows, cats, dogs and SSSSSSnakeSSSSSS!

The BEEginning of the school year is near!  BEE Prepared!

TREEmendous Summer Fun

I've had TREEmendous fun this summer!

zipaDee-SING, "There are NO Bananas in Sky!" to tune in for yoga practice!

Pete the Cat reminds us, "It's ALL GOOD."  Thanks to Emmalie Velte of Child's Breath Yoga for synergizing to share yoga with day cares in Lexington this summer!

ALL Feelings are OKAY in any language!

Thanks for sharing your smoothies with Chill Skill Campers, Mrs. Byrd Fort!  We appreciate you encouraging us to be balanced with our eating.

Some postures are more challenging IN the pool!  Tree Pose works us a little more when we try it in the water.

Summer School, Session 2

We sang "There Are NO BANANAS in the Sky!" to tune in and warm up.
Mrs. Broam's favorite part is "COCONUT CREAM PIE!"

Tuning in helps us focus and warming up gets our bodies ready to move safely.

Mrs. Broam explains the "take home" message of the day:
"ALL Feelings are OKAY!"

We made some real world connections as we discussed healthy ways to move feelings:  (1) Nobody gets hurt (2) Nothing gets hurt and (3) We don't hurt ourselves.

zipaDee--SUMMER 2015

YAY for Summer and the Opportunities to RELAX!
During Summer 2015, zipaDeeBee has shared yoga with Lexington One Summer School, Rhythmics Performing Arts, and Hand y Mano.  We've also coordinated Pool Yoga at a private residence and Chill Skills Camp at Pleasant Hill Elementary.  At Chill Skills Camp, we checked out the characters in Roald Dahl's Charlie and the Chocolate Factory to explore balance and self-regulation skills.  One of my favorite parts of camp was "Peace Builders."  Thanks to Mrs. Byrd Ford for inviting folks from the South Carolina Spinal Cord Injury Association.  Their presentation was inspiring!  "Chill Skills at the Chocolate Factory" is SWEET!

In August, we'll pick back up with Pisgah Yoga for Kids (4:30-5:30) and Adults (5:30-6:30) on Wednesdays (https://sites.google.com/site/zipadeebee/flyers/stonesoup).  Our topic is "Stone Soup."  Adult Classes will be Chair Yoga during this month.  We'll re-evaluate after August to see what to offer next!  The mission of zipaDeeBee is help you live your life in a quality way!  How best can we help you do that?  Where and when can you yoga?

Here's some great info for you to chew on:

I post pictures and info here at http://zipadeeyoga.blogspot.com/.  You can also check out http://zipadeebee.com/ or like zipaDeeBee on Facebook for the latest and greatest zipaDee-BUSINESS!!  I've added several videos to the Mrs. Broam's YouTube Channel this summer too:  https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCiaze_-7Mlz6aBSFU0Vg4sw  If you want to check out Mrs. Broam's Hat of the Day when school starts:  http://vitamindb.blogspot.com/ or like vitaminDB on Facebook.

Gettin' Wet and Havin' Fun!

Gettin' ready to move like the sun before moving outta the rain!

Pretending to be a volcano takes a big feeling down a notch.

Eagle posture is easier in the water.  Tree posture is more challenging!

This eagle can fly!

Peace Builders

Stacey's Story:

Yesterday, while eating lunch between shows, I watched a waitress go out of her way to assist an elderly woman who obviously wasn't feeling well. She sat down next to her, held her hand and made sure she had a ride home. When she came to refill our drinks, we asked how the woman was doing. The waitress explained that the woman (along with many elderly people) came to this particular cafeteria on a regular basis and she always looked out for them. She then excused herself and went into the kitchen. When she came out, she had a small to-go box and placed it in front of another elderly woman seated at another table. When she came back to us, she explained that it was that woman's 90th birthday and she wanted to make sure she had a strawberry shortcake to take home with her. When it was time to leave, I found our waitress to make sure she received her tip. She told me it was a cafeteria and a tip wasn't necessary. I put it in her hand and when she looked down and saw that I had handed her a twenty, she began to cry. She insisted it wasn't necessary, but I told her what a difference she made in the lives of others and how just witnessing her actions made my day so much brighter. Still crying, she hugged me and told me it was the biggest tip she had ever received.

This morning, while sitting outside of our hotel, an elderly man walked up to me. He reached out his hand, and I went to shake it. Instead he handed me a twenty dollar bill. He told me I was a good person and told me to have a blessed day. I balked, but he insisted and climbed into his car and drove away. I was speechless. Today, that twenty will be passed along to someone else...

Ms. Stacey Maxwell of Porkchop Productions is a "Peace Builder!"  Pass it on.  I'm thankful to have worked for her with Ms. Laura Blanchette this summer.  Both of these ladies touch the hearts of others every day!  They are *my* SOUP-er Heroes!

Berry Chill on Thursday

We are BERRY CHILL on Thursday!

This movement is called "Rolling Can" or "Roller Coaster!"  Use your tummy muscles to ride.

We created a "down dog tunnel!"  One camper slinks through the tunnel and then makes a new down dog, another link in the tunnel.

Thank you to the SC Spinal Cord Injuries Association for sharing how they make the world a better place.  We enjoyed see how they get from here to there.

It's a GOOD IDEA to sing a silly song!  Puts a smile on your face and a giggle in your heart.  Here's the words to "There are NO Bananas in the Sky!"

Thank you, Hannah!  We appreciate you working as a zipaDee-INTERN this summer!

BEE Content

Here's another way to take a deep breath:  Breathe in the scent of a flower, gently blow out the flame of the candle.

Partner Poses are Fun!  You can get a deeper stretch when you work with a friend.

This Partner Pose is called "Lizard on a Rock."  This lizard is sun bathing!

One way to be content is to eat healthy foods!  Thank you for sharing your super smoothies, Mrs. Byrd Fort!

Singing and coloring are healthy ways to process unpleasant feelings--(1) Nobody gets hurt (2) Nothing gets hurt & (3) You don't get hurt

Our bright idea of the morning was how will we shine our lights to help others?  What is happening around us?  Who needs a helping hand?  We answer these questions, and we begin to build peace and contentment, in small and TALL ways!

Balance Your Screentime

Today we read about Mike Teavee!  He was out of balance .  .  .

TV is not bad, just don't overdo it!  There are consequences to overdoing it .  .  .

You can move like the sun to feel more balanced!

We tuned in with listening bells.

We strengthened our toes playing "Monkey Feet!"

We tried going upside down today!  These are "L Handstands."

During creative expression, we painted with watercolors.

We practiced building peace one building block at a time!

We shared a "Handful of Quiet" with four stones.

Four out of seven campers said "final relaxation" is the BEST part of Chill Skills Camp!

Chill Skills Camp, Week 2, Day 1

We are exploring BALANCE!  We can make adjustments when we are "out of balance."  Here we are practicing this concept with peacock feathers:

One way to soothe the nervous system is to fold the body.  "Mouse" is one way to "fold the body."  Your body moves from "fight or flight" response to "rest and digest" with this movement.

We have all young ladies this week so today we zipaDee-PRINCESSED!  Check out these "beauties"--
Here we are learning about triangle to be Belle's gown.  When she dances with the Beast, her beautiful gown looks like a triangle!  Can you touch the hem of the dress?

Xena was a Warrior Princess.  This position is "Warrior 2."  When you hold your body like this, you are STRONG!

Mulan was a warrior too!  To celebrate her we're doing "Warrior 1."  :-)

Princess Leia was a pretty strong character also.  Can you be her light saber?  Try to balance in "Warrior 3" to let your light shine.

Walk like a bear with Pocohantas!  Using large muscles, folding the body--this is another good way to slow your body down.

Watch out for the bears that GROWL!

Be careful around Jasmine's tiger .  .  .

We'll escape in Wonder Woman's invisible jet!  Whew?!

We wrapped up the day celebrating Peace Builder, Ron McNair.  How can you bridge "the gaps?"  What ARE "the gaps" in your world?
