Together We Create BIG Smiles!

We raised $310 with our donations-based yoga class tonight!!!  YEA!!!  Thank you for sharing your generous hearts with children who need a smile.

We explored "The Smiley," generated by graphic artist Harvey Ball in 1963.  It took him 10 minutes to design, and he was paid $45 for his efforts.  "The Smiley" was created to improve morale of employees at the State Mutual Life Assurance Co. (now entitled Hanover Insurance).

We explored other famous smiles . . .

Leonardo da Vinci painted the Mona Lisa over a 16 year period.  It was everything he learned over his lifetime assimilated into one work of art: hydro studies, studies of light, shadows, anatomy, draperies, curls and swirls . . . It was in his studio when he died.  He never delivered to the silk merchant who commissioned this painting of his wife.

We sang "I've Been Working on the Railroad" with our triangle, warrior II, peaceful warrior, and side angle sequence.

You can recreate on many converted railway beds.  Try out the Silver Comet in Atlanta, the Swamp Rabbit in Greenville or the Doodle Trail in Pickens.

Thank you for taking a chance and . . .

sending a smile to another part of our world!

Thank you for sharing love with someone you don't even know!!!

"Smiles, Trains, and The Smile Train"

I am so thankful our P.E. program shares how we can help ourselves, our school and OTHERS through our annual Pleasant Hill Elementary School Mini-Marathon. Children secure sponsorships to run and money raised helps our school and The Smile Train nonprofit. This year ALL the money goes to The Smile Train. We are helping children born with cleft lip and palate "find their smiles!" It only costs $250 to sponsor a surgery. Pleasant Hill Elementary has sponsored over 800 surgeries during the past 11 years!! When I think about that, I'm moved to try to help a little more! My yoga classes would like to offer a donation-based class on Wednesday, April 4, 5:30-6:30, in the Pisgah Lutheran Church Gym. Bring a mat and donation, wear comfortable clothes, and join us as we explore Smiles, Trains and The Smile Train effort to make the world a better place, one smile at a time. If you need more info or have questions, please let me know.

Bowling for Bunnies

We had fun bowling for bunnies in our yoga practice this week!
We breathed like bunnies, warmed our bodies by "moving like the sun," then picked out postures from our set of Yoga Cards to place under the bunny pins.

We took turns rolling the ball:
and when a bunny was knocked down . . .
we practiced a pose corresponding to the bunny.  This is a "slide" or reverse plank pose:

We also worked in "candle",

"table",

and "waterfall!"

After our final relaxation, we made origami rabbits:

and picked out a treat for our Easter Baskets!

No April Foolin', hope the Easter Bunny was good to YOU today!

Yoga Everywhere!

It's Career Day!

Having fun sharing zipaDeeBee, LLC:  Books, Bodies, Brains with PHES Cougars!

Managing a small business vs. working for a large employer:  purchasing a domain name (zipaDeeBee.com)/maintaining a web site, shopping insurance, setting a budget, paying taxes, creating content, marketing and advertising are all included when you are in business for yourself.

Some of the resources we explored.  The singing bowl and finger cymbals caught everybody's attention!

Folding the body promotes calm in the body.

We tried other movements:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LDEhG1Z6RWk

Irish Legends

We began our practice today exploring the Breathing Toolbox:

One way to breathe is like a bellows!

You put your hands on your shoulders, elbows togehter, and then breathe your elbows apart.
When you exhale, you blow out your air and bring the elbows back together.

The first story we shared today was about a king who lived in a castle with his family.

The stepmom was jealous of the king's love for his four children.  She took them to the lake
  so they could swim.

Then the not-so-nice stepmom turned the children into one, two, three . . .

four swans?!

When the king discovered the trickery, he turned the stepmom into a moth!  The moth flew away and was never seen again.

The children were swans for 900 years?!  They spent 300 years on three different lakes . . .

We pretended to fly from one lake to the next.

After 900 years, a church bell rang and the curse was broken!

The children were happy to be children again!  They sang and danced to celebrate.

Our second legend was about a giant in Ireland named Finn.

He stacked rocks to build a causeway from Ireland to Scotland.

Because he was afraid of a BIGGER giant in Scotland he pretended to be a baby . . .

We wrapped our stories with a Shamrock Circle!

During our relaxation we imagined playing with a leprechaun!  We ate Lucky Charms and slid down rainbows into pots of gold.
Happy St. Patrick's Day!
