Yoga for Literacy

I appreciated the opportunity to be a part of the SC Center for Community Literacy's program on community resources available to classrooms and libraries! Thank you, Valerie Byrd Fort, for the invitation.💗
Yoga with a story helps you live happily ever after!📚

Yoga Under the Sea

Put your hands on your heart and belly.  Can you move your hands with your deep breath?

We moved like the sunshine to warm up for our yoga work!

Is your mountain strong?

Today we explored Eric Carle's A House for Hermit Crab.

Hermit crab was too big for his shell, so he set off in search of a new one!

His shell was plain so he decorated it with a sea anemone!

He also added a snail.

Here's our lantern fish that lights up Hermit Crab's house!

We completed our practice with a twist . . .

and rest.

What does your house look like?🏡

Last Llama Camp Day

July 25th was the last day of . . .

LLAMA

CAMP!

We tuned in . . .

and "SPOTTED" Kindness during our final Yoga Practice!

YogART was Play Doh!

One more center time to explore what we've learned:

"There's gonna be problems, but we are problem solvers!" We welcome the problems as opportunities to strengthen and be brave.  The problems or "rocks" give the river "it's song!"

We played Jenga Yoga!  To play, a camper pulls out a block from the Jenga Tower.  The block introduces a yoga pose, like Lion's Breath:

We explored sadness today.  The dreary wearies can wear you down.  Look for the cheery cheeries!

Our Peace Builder was Helen Keller:

We drew a "zipaDeeBee" for our Mindfulness Moment of the Day:

Parachute Yoga was a fun game to play to wrap our week.  There were many toys under the parachute!  We sang to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb, "Yoga Camp is very fun, very fun, very fun! We learned lots of things!"🎶

We lifted the parachute, taking turns picking a toy representing a yoga pose.

Crab Pose

Horse Pose

Tiger Pose

What was the BEST part of Yoga Camp?

It was a LLAMAzing Week!

Thank you to my daughters who shared a whole LLAMA help this week!  Their assistance made for no prob-LLAMAs at Yoga Camp!💙💚🧡💜💛
Namaste, Yogi Friends!🙏

Lord, Teach Us to Pray

Children Sermon for Luke 11:1-13
Dear God, our Father who lives in heaven, there is power in your name.  We trust your ways . . . from your kingdom in heaven all the way down to earth where we live.

Please provide all we need today.

Forgive us our mistakes as we forgive those who make mistakes against us.

Help us to make good choices and protect us from evil.

Everything we have and do is all for you so everyone we meet will see you in us.  Forever and ever, AMEN!

s-t-r-e-t-c-h sloooow like a sloth

On Thursday at Pisgah CDM Yoga, we slowed our pace and tuned in with the large singing bowl!

We took deep breaths like blowing up and letting go of a balloon!

We also breathed like a balloon while sitting "hips on heels."

We breathed like a "caiman!"

We read Eric Carle's "Slowly, Slowly, Slowly," Said the Sloth.

The sloth was hanging upside down in a tree.

We put our trees together to make a forest!

We moved like animals that live with the sloth in South America.  We used snake pose for the anaconda.  Although he doesn't rattle, we added rattles to our snake for fun.🐍

This is a coati.  It has a ring-tail that it holds high in the air.  When coatis travel where grasses are tall, they can keep up with one another by the tails!

We made it rain!  It takes a lot of self-control and patience to make it rain . . .

Here we are monkey-in' around like a howler monkey!

We twisted with a partner.

We rested on our own.

Mrs. Broam had shirts left over from a yoga camp several years ago!  We thought we'd consider our summer yoga like a "yoga camp" we completed one afternoon per week!

Say, "Cheese!"
See you next week for our last session in our summer series!🌞
