D'Etta zipaDeeBee Bangle


When I think about my call, I think about the MOST IMPORTANT lessons from the vocations I have had opportunity to experience so far in my service to God.  I think these lessons will be important for any vocation I am gifted next:

D' -- Don't give up!  Persevere.  One day, one moment, one breath at a time. I represented this with a turtle charm for the sea turtle that travels back to her birth beach to lay her eggs, even though it would be easier to go to the NEAREST beach . . . Sea turtles have GRIT (growth, resilience, integrity, tenacity). E -- Encourage. Encourage others, encourage myself.  Be a cheerleader for God's work in the world!

t -- True North.  Aim TRUE.  Be the child of God only I can be. Do the work God is calling me to do in the way only I can git 'er done.

a -- Ask questions.  Ask questions. Ask more question.  Be curious.  Clarify.  Be humble and open to others' perspectives and experiences.  We are in community for a reason.  We are not designed to go it alone. Where is God in all this?  What is God desiring or how can I love my neighbor in this moment? How is God making our crooked paths straight today? Without questions, we can't find answers.

Spiritual Practices -- Anointing

I was sharing this practice with my beautiful Field Education Supervisor, and she shared this was "annointing!"  Isn't it interesting the things we do intuitively can be the things we need to do to take care of our body, brains, and heart?!  Thank you, Holy Spirit for the work you do every day and EVERY WAY!  Please help us to LISTEN.

HEART CHARM WITH HOLDING HANDS & I'M OKAY CHARM -- "God's Got This and I'm Okay!" Roll or rub lavender oil on your heart and belly!

FEET CHARM -- I'm ready and available to do the work God is calling me to do. Rub oil on to feet.

JOY CHARM -- I will serve with joy and freedom (hips), peace and love (shoulders).

BUTTERFLY CHARM & IT IS WHAT IT IS CHARM -- with hope and faith (wrists), I accept what is (inside of arms) because I know "God's Got This and I'm Okay!" (heart and belly) Repeat the HEART CHARM WITH HOLDING HANDS & I'M OKAY CHARM

This practice and the words developed in the beginning of my retirement.  After most every bath time, I connect back to this practice.  Tie a spiritual practice to a daily habit or "have to" so you'll remember to do/easily incorporate it into your days!  It's one way to incorporate time with God into your life.

Zebras Don't Get Ulcers

 

Zebras experience acute physical stressors.  They run from the lion and then survive (or don't😬). . . Zebras don't ruminate about the experience, aren't worried about finances or if they are good enough or when an assignment is due or if they are discerning God's word and living it well. "Human Doings" have chronic and psychological stressors! We're always running from the lion🦁, and, therefore, may develop ulcers or other dis-ease . . . When can you yoga? Back to school means a lot of GGRRReat adventures for everyone on the Columbia Campus (Lenoir-Rhyne University's school nickname is the Bears🐻), BUT it also means high stress levels may be back too. You don't need to be. That's why we do yoga. Your body is a yoga body. You've lived a rich and colorful life with texture--sometimes the going's been rough like sandpaper, sometimes it’s been soft and cotton ball fluffy. We can be strong and confident and love the body God designed, the body we are in today.

"I can't do what I used to could do."
Nobody's judging you, except for possibly you. Let that ego go so you can truly be who God has called you to be.

What Kind of Yoga are We Talking About?
My style of yoga is born from experience with Vinyasa, Trauma Informed practices, and a variety of training, including meditation. To me, yoga is coming in the body you are in today and growing from there.  It's about breathing, balancing, s-t-r-e-t-c-h-i-n-g and strengthening.  

My Background: 
I have my experienced registered yoga teacher certification. That's 200hr+ in training and 1,000+ hours of yoga teaching experience. 

I have my 95-hour children specialty yoga teacher certification.  

I have 50 hours in therapeutic applications of yoga for children and families. 

I am currently enrolled in an 800 hour Yoga Therapist Training with East Coast Yoga Therapy in Greensboro, NC.  

I have completed one year at Maryland University of Integrative Health in the Master of Science of Yoga Therapy program.  

I got you.  I'll take good care of you.  If you have questions, I'll help you find answers.  What have you got to lose but unhealthy stress?

Love Your Neighbor

 

Be a Teddy Bear Friend!!🧸 A friend that listens, helps others feel safe and comfortable, is the kind of friend God wants us to be!💕

Here's how to be a bear hibernating in a cave with your body!🐻

Don't be a Shark Friend🦈  These friends bite, kick, punch, pinch, push, shove, and hit😟

Don't be a Snake Friend🐍 These friends are dishonest, take things that don't belong to them, tattle . . . they hurt people's hearts😢

Monkey Friends hurt people "on accident."🐵 They need to take deep breaths to manage their energies and calm their bodies and brains🧠

Turtle Friends never come out of their shells🐢.  .  . We made "turtle hands" to calm and build courage and confidence.

When you love your neighbor like a Teddy Bear Friend, you do make a difference!😊

If Yoga Strengthens Your Bones . . .

 

If Yoga strengthens your bones . . . can a Jellyfish yoga??  Jellies do NOT have bones!  But yoga has many benefits and so jellies can yoga!

We also reviewed the Lord's Prayer with our yoga. Deacon Deborah shared the Lord's Prayer in Chapel on Monday.  It is how Jesus taught us to pray!

We used words we can understand. Instead of "hallowed," we used "power!" We practiced the Power Pose for this part of the prayer.

In our Jellyfish story, there was a crab that was crabby.  Jelly the Jellyfish and Peanut Butter the Sea Horse were nice to Crab even though Crab was not nice to  them.  Maybe they prayed a prayer like this to give them strength and courage to be kind: "Dear God, Crabby is NOT nice.  Please help me to be nice to him. Amen"

Crabby was caught in a fisherman's trap!  We made a trap with our yoga hands.

Peanut Butter and Jelly opened the trap to rescue Crabby!

Everything we have and do is all for you, Jesus! So that everyone we meet will see you in us🧡
